This recipe took me back to many a Friday night during my childhood! While we ate vegetables almost exclusively through the week, Momma would make hamburgers, pizza or Sloppy Joes on Friday nights. The recipe she used must have been very similar to this one. We all really liked it, Logan particularly.
This recipe is from the BMH-Union County Relay for Life Fundraiser Cookbook, Temptations Tried and True. These are no longer available for sale, but remember, we're giving one away this month. Be sure to register to win. Just e-mail me at

Since my meat was already browned and in the freezer, this made for a really quick meal. When a recipe calls for onions and/or green peppers to be sauteed with your hamburger meat, and you have already pre-cook your meat, there are a few options. Of course, you can just leave them out. Or, you can saute the onions/green peppers in a bit of water or butter and add to thawed meat. Or, You can thaw the meat in a skillet, add a bit of water and the veggies, and simmer until onions/peppers are softened. Or, as I did tonight, when the recipe called for only onions, just add a bit of onion salt or powder.
Oh, the fries were really good, too! This was the first time we had tried them. I got them on sale at Kroger for $0.99.

Wednesday - Sloppy Joes and Baked Crispy French Fries (frozen)
Sloppy Joes
1 -1 ½ pounds ground beef
½ c. catsup
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
Liquid smoke
Brown ground beef in a skillet and drain. Return to skillet and add all other ingredients and simmer a few minutes. Serve on hamburger buns.
Baked Crispy French Fries
I baked these as directed on the package. They were really crispy and crunchy - just the way we like them! Plus, the bag fed the whole family for less than most single orders of fries cost at a fast food restaurant.
